2018 Championship Fours

What a championship game this turned out to be. Winners for the past two years in this event versus a team consisting of 2 players who have never won a minor or major event. Previous champions Mandy Stitt, Sandra Warren, Donna Seddon and Lorraine Donney v Linda Nankervis, Bette McDonald, Maureen Ellison and Nikki Nesci.

The game started with Lorraine's team racing to a 5 shot lead by the 5th end with Nikki's team gaining ground to even the score by the 7th. Again Lorraine's team gained the upper hand with some excellent bowling to have an 8 shot lead by the 11th. The game seemed all but over as the game reached the championship ends (the last 5 ends) as there was a sizable difference between the 2 teams of 9 shots. To their credit Nikki's team employed a never say die attitude and with a change in strategy levelled the scores on the 20th end. It was still anyone's game on the last end but with a stroke of luck Nikki's team ran out victorious, winning the Championship Fours 21-19.

2018 Major Triples

Congratulations to Jan Sutton, Coral McMurray and Lorraine Donney who won the Major Triples this season. They played a brilliant team game to defeat Penny Auld, Leslea Gruber and Donna Seddon.

2018 Minor Singles

A brilliant match was played in the final of the Minor Singles between first time finalists Linda Bradbury and Cheryl Mommsen.

The game started in typical close match fashion as each player traded shot for shot until the 12th end. At this point Cheryl held a 3 shot lead but Linda drew skillfully for the full count of 4 shots on the next end to take the lead.

For the next 9 ends both Linda and Cheryl swapped the lead with no more than 1 shot between them. By the 21st end the score was 18-17 with Linda in front. It was still anyone's game but Linda played a litttle more consistently in the race to be the first to 25 to take out the mach 25-18.

It was a fantastic game to watch with the spectators treated to an enthralling finish.

2018 Major Singles

2016 Major Singles winner Mandy Stitt and Prestigious Pairs winner Audrey Pritchard played off for the blue ribbon Major Singles final. Both players played brilliant bowls in the games leading up to the final which promised to be a tightly fought contest between 2 of the clubs best bowlers.

Mandy however, flew out of the starting box holding an 8-0 lead after 3 ends. She was simply on fire while Audrey was unable to reproduce the form she displayed in the qualifying games. Whilst Audrey played some lovely shots Mandy was just too good on the day and won her second Major Singles title 25-10.

2018 Minor Pairs

The Minor Pairs final was played between Fay Berry and her skip Heather Starr and Maureen Ellison and her skip Cheryl Mommsen.

In windy conditions, Fay and Heather raced to a 6 shot lead early in the game only for Maureen and Cheryl to play excellent bowls to catch up and level the scores. The scores see-sawed between the 2 teams to 11 all but then Fay and Heather maintained better consistency to take out the game and title 21-13.
